Where to stay: Ten Face, Bangkok
Sasha Bates reviews Ten Face, a modern hotel resembling an exclusive nightclub with in-room iPod and a fashionable adjoining restaurant and bar.

TEN FACE
LOCATION At the end of a long lane in Sukhumvit, 20 minutes' walk form Ploenchit station: the hotel's tuk-tuk will ferry you there on demand.
CHARACTER This modern, eight-storey apartment block reminded me of going to an exclusive new nightclub- difficult to find, hard to locate the door, and when you do it's not clear how to get beyond it. Once you're inside, you might find it is slighty claustrophobic: barely any windows, low lighting, and deep burgundy corridors with dark grey doors.
ROOMS The darkness does not extend to the 79 suites, which are light and airy and more like small apartments, with sitting room, kitchen, bathroom, balcony and one or two bedrooms. The décor is slightly masculine; all clean, sharp lines and huge flat-screen televisions.
FOOD The restaurant and adjoining Sita bar are ultra-cool and popular with fashionable Thais. A DJ spins the latest sounds, the cocktails are sublime and the food is a delicious and exciting fusion of east and west.
WE LIKE The attention to detail: in-room iPod (with films or podcasts about what to see in Bangkok); a hotel television channel with more visitor information; free daily pass for the Skytrain-even a SIM card for your phone so you can make local calls and book the tuk-tuk.
NOT SO KEEN On the location: I prefer being able to walk out the door on a whim, rather than having to rely on a lift to the station whenever I want to go anywhere.
